Tsukiji Outer Fish Market

Although Tsukiji Market no longer hosts the famous tuna auctions, it remains one of Tokyo’s most important culinary destinations, filled with long-established shops and vibrant food stalls. During the tour, we will visit Tsukiji Hongan-ji Temple and Namiyoke Shrine, both important cultural and spiritual landmarks of the area, so visitors are asked to remain respectful and quiet while on the premises. Some stops may offer opportunities to sample local specialties or purchase food, but these costs are not included in the tour. The market streets are often narrow and crowded, so extra caution is recommended for visitors with reduced mobility. Tsukiji is generally a very safe area, though guests should always keep an eye on their belongings in busy locations.

Purchases made at shops, food, and beverages.

Wear comfortable walking shoes, as the tour includes narrow streets and crowded market areas. Depending on the season, bring water and sunscreen during summer, or an umbrella and warm clothing during colder months. Take advantage of the many opportunities to photograph the market’s daily life and the beautiful temple grounds, while respecting local rules in sacred areas. Many small vendors still operate on a cash-only basis, so carrying some cash is recommended. Come with an open mind and a curious appetite to discover new flavors and learn about Japan’s culinary traditions. At the end of the tour, you are welcome to leave a voluntary contribution based on your level of satisfaction.
